Honeycomb is the most raw format of honey that can be harvested from a beehive!  My bees have built these wax combs from scratch and filled them with delicious honey from the Ellice Swamp and surrounding farmland, bringing you a unique taste of our Perth East summers and the wide variety of flowers the bees have visited.

My "cheese board chunkie" is a 1" x 1" square of comb weighing in at 45 grams. All larger sizes meet minimum gross weights of 150g, 200g, 250g, 300g, 350g, and 400g.

Never had honeycomb before?
Here are some tips & food pairing suggestions:
If you eat it as a small chunk without any other food pairings, you will find that the honey dissolves out and you will be left with the wax to chew on like gum (or spit out if you don't like the texture).  The wax is completely safe to swallow and acts like roughage (dietary fibre) in the digestive system.

Honeycomb is wonderful paired with cheese and one of my favourite ways to eat it is with cheese, fruit, nuts and crackers/bread - this can be a small snack plate or a whole cheese/charcuterie board!  Other options include spreading a little butter and honeycomb on toast or english muffins.  If you cut a croissant in half and put a scant bit of butter and spread a bit of honeycomb on and then broil it for 2-3 minutes, you'll get a gooey warm treat!  And finally, a last suggestion from customers in the past: use it in your next homemade granola recipe - the wax helps the granola stick together!

Your fresh honeycomb can be frozen to keep the honey from crystallizing if you need to store it for awhile.  If not frozen, it will slowly crystallize over time as honey naturally does. I do not store my honeycomb in the freezer and at may arrive to you in crystallized form. Crystallized honeycomb can result in a very candy-like texture that is uniquely delicious, so don't be afraid if it sits for a few months!

Features

I always use quality fabrics and thread. In addition, I am conscientious about making sure I use a full seam allowance. I never leave fabrics holding together by a few threads. This ensures a quality, handmade item, that will withstand normal care and use for many years.

The inner batting layer is usually Pellon or Hobbs 80/20. Occasionally I use a bamboo batting.

Binding is always double thickness and attached by machine for added durability, with neat mitered corners.

The nice thing about quilts is that the more you use them the softer and more snuggly they become. Don’t be afraid to use them wherever you want to be. After all, we wear cotton fabrics everyday in our clothes… your quilt won’t fall apart before it gets well loved!

Care

I have often washed my own quilts in with a regular wash load, with no regrets. However, it is still recommended to use a gentle cycle, mild soap and tumble drying on low heat. (** Note: I rarely prewash my fabrics. Expect a small amount of shrinkage on the first laundering.) It is the tumble drying that achieves the soft crinkly look that we associate with handmade quilts. If you prefer a flatter look, lay flat to air dry… do not dry in the dryer.

Remember that sunlight will fade any fabric, and your quilt is no exception.  So; have a care when you leave it outside frequently or in a sunny window.

Packaging & Shipping

I package all my items responsibly, first with a care for your purchase and then with a desire to reuse and recycle any shipping material I have around.
